09/01/2016: Life threatening Hurricane Hermine from Horseshoe Beach, FL. The last time a hurricane made landfall in Florida was 2005 and even longer period since the last time a hurricane made landfall on the gulf side.
Winds strengthened enough with tropical storm Hermine that it became a category 1 hurricane prior to land fall just to the north of Horseshoe Beach, FL on 09/01/2016. This footage was shot from there as the storm intensified. I abandoned my position as the storm surge started pushing water over the roadways. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued hurricane and tropical storm warnings prior to Hermines land fall warning of life-threatening storm surges in areas close to the the center of the storms eye.
Unfortunately, one person was killed when a tree fell on their tent and over 170,000 people were without electricity the morning after.
